The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) announced the Clean Power Plan which will reduce carbon pollution from power plants. Currently, carbon dioxide is the nation’s largest source of pollution that exacerbates climate change and leads to an array of public health problems. To help states comply with the Clean Power Plan, The Geothermal Energy Association (GEA), Geothermal Exchange Organization (GEO), and Geothermal Resources Council (GRC) have collaborated on nine guides to assist states wishing to include geothermal technologies in their compliance plans. Geothermal technologies can be important tools to help states comply with EPA’s new rules by building power plants where these resources are available, expanding direct-use heating and cooling systems, or installing geothermal heat pumps on homes and business.
