Machine Shop Reduces Cycle Time

Machine Shop Reduces Cycle Time

Mar 28

TNG Energy Services Inc.’s latest continual improvement effort in the machine shop was decreasing cycle time on an external flanged outlet for a set of geothermal wellhead assemblies we are producing.

The increased frequency of manufacturing this family of part warranted investment in a “GEN3SYS XT” carbide replaceable tip drill from Allied Machine and Engineering. Cycle time was reduced by 16 minutes per part! Thank you to Nate Craine with Allied Machine and Engineering for support.

It should be noted in light of the great time savings on this one application, this drill actually is capable of much higher metal removal rates than shown in this video. However, due to horsepower limitations and suboptimal coolant delivery with the live tooling on the CNC lathe we could only run at 30% of its capability.
